So, I’m in a shuttle bound for Trigalis.

I still can’t figure out why Thaiman is taking such an extreme measure. All we need are battle droid parts. We wanted an arrangement where they could be sent to us from the battlefield. If we can’t make that work, surely asking for the budget to charter a cargo transport ourselves to go to battle sites after the armies have moved on would be a better answer than getting involved with Black Sun? There must be some other motive here, I just can’t fathom what it could be.

I had a old friend over to the office to do some investigating. Thaiman was searching the HoloNet for information on a world called Trigalis before he left. I figured he was in over his head but I had no idea how bad it was. Trigalis is ruled by a vigo. I guess he was actually getting as upset at the red tape as I was… and decided to do something completely insane to get around it. If I’m going to try and salvage this thing, I’m going to have to call in a lot more favors.

I just went over to Thaiman’s office to ask him some questions about what’s going on. He didn’t respond to the door buzzer, so I opened the door and walked in. He’s not there! On his desk was a datacard containing a note for me, which he apparently meant to slip under my door before leaving, but forgot to.
[Playback of Fretyln’s log pauses and the system begins playing an embedded audio file.]
[You hear a human male begin speaking.]
Dr. Frey’ar, I’m letting you know that I’ll be away on a business trip for two weeks.
[The man hesitates for a moment.]
Expect me back on the first with good news.
[The embedded file stops and the main log resumes.]
I don’t know what in blazes he’s doing, but I’m sure he’s in over his head and that idiotic Corellian bravado is going to get him hurt. The only question is whether I go after him myself. I’m still mad that he didn’t just tell me what was going on, and the notion of reinforcing these people’s silly luck superstitions grates on me, but darn it all, I need him.

It appears that Thaiman has gotten himself strangled in bureaucratic red tape. I heard from a friend that Thaiman met with Senator Bel Iblis six months ago to make the request. Bel Iblis, unsurprisingly, told Thaiman that he couldn’t help him. He did, however, tell Thaiman how to get in touch with Senator Ask Aak. Ask Aak promised to get us the droids. In their communications since, the smarmy three-eyes keeps making excuses and suggesting that the manpower can’t be spared to send salvage teams to battlefields to get what we need, without explicitly saying that it won’t happen and continuing to promise that it will somehow. I just don’t understand why Thaiman won’t be honest with me about it. I still think he’s up to something, but I don’t know what.

Naturally I understand why the project was started as soon as it was; I signed off on it after all and what we’re doing isn’t entirely unproductive, but CDW promised they would have samples of battle droid tech for us by the 11th, and it’s still not here. We can doodle hypotheses and brainstorming on the holoboard all day long and keep strengthening out set of initial approach vectors, but until we have the units in-hand to actually test and develop against, we can’t make any true progress. I’m arguing with Thaiman almost daily about it, and every time, he tells me the samples are coming “soon,” whatever that means, and to “just relax” and that he’s “sure we’re doing great work in the meantime,” which just makes my fur ripple even more. Does he realize who he’s talking to? Does he think I can’t find out what’s going on on my own? I’m about to call in a favor or two if this goes on.

Here we are. Hard to believe it’s been almost a year since this war began. I have to say that the facilities they’ve set up here are impressive. Better yet, the climate here is very much like home. A comfortable work environment is of paramount importance for this kind of assignment which will be so critical to success in quashing the traitorous Separatists. I still haven’t quite gotten over the shock of being asked to head up the project. I had no idea the glory-seeking Corellians could be so reasonable! Time to get Rak’s Sting underway. The “Confederacy” is in for a sharp surprise.
